From the theory of gravity to claims of NASA’s moon landing, many of the claims of science are absolutely absurd. All of the scientific claims that the earth is round don’t make sense when we think of water that is always flat. So many questions come to mind when we are confronted with living on a sphere. For example, which way is up? How do planes take off and land on a moving target? How did the astronauts in the famous moon landing get back to the earth, if the earth is chasing the sun at 66,6000 miles per hour? The science just does not make sense!
The Apostle Paul told Timothy to shun the wild claims of science. As mentioned in the scripture, Timothy was told to keep that which is committed to his trust and avoid babbling of science.
1 Tim. 6:20(KJV) says,
“O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called”.
One must ask, what’s wrong with science? According to Paul, science often produced vain babblings that are not grounded in trustworthy doctrine. In other words, often science is called science falsely because it’s not real science.
Paul seems to be eluding to the fact that there is real science that comes from God and not man. Often, men will make assumptions in error, and because their understanding of cosmology is not rooted in the mind of God, they do it in vain.
No one can really understand the cosmology of the earth without the wisdom and insight that comes from the creator. Many of the theories of mankind can only work on the chalkboard. Yet, real science works from observation. From observation, we can clearly see that we are not spinning. We see that train tracks do not curve downward. Helicopters can take off and land in the same spot. All of this is observable. Yet, because we have a tendency to allow men who refer to themselves as scholars, we have a tendency to believe them.
