Romans 8:29 | Romans 12:2 | Colossians 2:8
By Dr. Vincent Rhodes

In a world that is constantly reshaping truth to fit the shifting sands of culture, the believer in Christ is called to something radically different—transformation through conformity to Jesus Christ, not to the world.

The Cultural Climate: A Dangerous Drift

Former President Barack Obama recently made headlines by stating that “boys need gay professors.” While this statement may seem progressive and inclusive on the surface, it points to a deeper and more concerning trend—the push to redefine masculinity, identity, and morality apart from God’s design.

This isn’t merely about professors. It’s about the growing pressure on Christians, families, and especially young men and women to embrace values and lifestyles that directly conflict with Scripture.

But Scripture is clear:

“For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son…” (Romans 8:29)

1. The World Wants to Conform You

Paul’s words in Romans 12:2 serve as both a warning and a command:

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

The world has a pattern. And the pattern is designed to pull you away from Christ, not toward Him. Whether through entertainment, politics, education, or even religious institutions, there’s a rising tide of deceptive philosophies dressed as love, inclusion, or empowerment.

But if the foundation isn’t Christ, the result is bondage, not freedom.

2. Christ Alone Is Our Model

If we’re going to be shaped by anything, it must be by the image of Jesus Christ. Jesus redefined greatness through servanthood, strength through humility, and truth through love.

Masculinity, femininity, identity, and purpose are all found in Him—not in ideologies born from rebellion against God’s design.

Young men don’t need to be guided by unbiblical philosophies—they need godly mentors, truth-filled teaching, and examples of righteousness.

“Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.” (1 John 2:6)

3. Reject Deception, Embrace Truth

Paul warns us in Colossians 2:8:

“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”

Too many believers have become captive—not by chains—but by ideologies.

If the Church does not take a stand and proclaim truth boldly and lovingly, then the next generation will be discipled by the culture rather than the cross.

Final Thoughts: Whose Image Are You Reflecting?

We must ask ourselves daily:
Am I becoming more like Christ, or more like the world?

When political leaders, cultural influencers, and even educational systems promote ideas that undermine the gospel, we must respond—not with hatred, but with clarity, conviction, and compassion.

We are not called to blend in. We are called to stand out.

Conformed to Christ, not the culture. That is the true calling of every believer.
