Is America Cursed or Blessed Because of Israel?

Today, I want to deal with a very controversial but necessary question: Is America cursed because of its blind allegiance to Israel? While politicians and even some pastors claim that God will bless America if we support Israel, the suffering of innocent people in Gaza tells a very different story.

Senator Lindsey Graham recently made the statement that if America ever turns its back on Israel, “God will pull the plug on the United States.” His words echo a brand of extreme Zionism that has crept into both our politics and our pulpits. According to this worldview, America’s survival hinges not on righteousness, not on justice, not on truth or compassion, but solely on how unwaveringly we prop up the modern state of Israel.

But here’s the problem: this view completely ignores the Christian message of love, mercy, and justice. Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” not blessed are those who drop bombs. He said, “Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for Me,” not “blessed are those who cut off food and medicine to children.”

Right now, we are witnessing the people of Gaza—men, women, and children—being starved, bombed, and displaced. America is not an innocent bystander; our tax dollars, our weapons, and our political cover are helping inflict this suffering. And yet, leaders like Graham have the audacity to say that God’s blessing depends on how loyal we are to this machinery of oppression.

Let’s be honest: when we fund destruction, when we ignore the cries of the poor, when we justify collective punishment, we are not aligning with God’s will. We are aligning with injustice.

Barack Obama denounced former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright
This is why voices like Pastor Jeremiah Wright shook America when he thundered, “God damn America, for killing innocent people in foreign wars.” He wasn’t cursing America out of hatred—he was echoing the prophetic tradition. He was reminding us that God’s judgment falls not only on Nineveh, not only on Babylon, but also on nations that shed innocent blood and call it righteousness.

And if we are honest, isn’t that where America stands today? We justify endless wars, we supply weapons that kill children, we pretend to stand on “biblical values” while ignoring the teachings of Christ Himself.

The Bible is clear about what brings blessing or curse to a nation. Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Jesus said the greatest commandments are to love God and love your neighbor. America will not be blessed because it supports Israel no matter what it does; America will be blessed only if it repents, seeks justice, and shows compassion to the oppressed.

So, is America cursed because of Israel? Perhaps not directly—but America is certainly cursed for the suffering we help inflict upon the innocent. Lindsey Graham and his Zionist friends can claim that God’s favor rests on blind loyalty, but the gospel says otherwise. The gospel calls us to feed the hungry, to defend the oppressed, and to love our enemies.

If America continues to ignore that call, then like every empire before it, our fall will not come from God “pulling the plug” because we abandoned Israel—it will come because we abandoned Christ.
